February 2014: PhD Fellow Sarah Abel’s Visual Fieldwork in Brazil

EUROTAST PhD Fellow Sarah Abel has successfully completed her fieldwork in Brazil where she studied the national, cultural and political context that influences trends and perceptions of genetic ancestry testing in different post-slavery societies. During her research she conducted extensive photographic documentation of the people she met and places where she was working. These photographs, beyond serving as a document of Sarah’s research, are also visually stunning.

Sarah has now moved to her next field site, Howard University, where she will be interviewing students and staff regarding their opinions on the links between genetics, ancestry and identity.
